U of W cancer research bolstered: Seeds4Hope funds local scientists

The University of Windsor will be host to unique cancer research thanks to $250,000 in grants from the Windsor and Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation.

Four research projects have been awarded the first startup grants from Seeds4Hope, a new program that supports innovative local cancer research with help from community donations.

The projects, involving 13 researchers, were selected from nine applications peer-reviewed by experts outside of Windsor. The proposals that came out on top are diverse and involve both laboratory and psychosocial research.
Lisa Porter, a cancer researcher and U of W biology professor, was awarded $70,000 over two years to study how cortisol, the main stress hormone in the body, affects the development of breast cancer and patient outcome.
