The pupils at St. Anne’s French Immersion School doubled their contribution to the Carl & Gloria Morgan Scholarship in Breast Cancer Research this year.

With pennies, nickels, and dimes raised in all sorts of projects, the children collected $3,131.70 and donated it to the University of Windsor at an assembly last Friday afternoon. Nancy Parker, assistant to Vice-President, Advancement, John Bergholz, was on hand to announce the total to the children.

The scholarship supports a graduate student in biological sciences professor Lisa Porter’s laboratory. The Ontario Trust for Student Support will match the student’s donation to double the contribution to the endowment.

UWindsor alum John Dufour, a teacher at St. Anne’s School, organized the fundraising.

Dr. Porter, the Assumption Chair in Cancer Research, spoke to the children about cancer research and things they can do to avoid cancer.

Also speaking to the children were the Morgan’s daughter Jocelyn Gignac, grand-daughter Jacqueline Gignac, and UWindsor director of development Mike Clark, who conveyed the University’s thanks to the staff and students for their efforts.
